This hut had recent modifications making it one of the far nicer huts. Lots of hooks in the bunks. Good head room. Over priced (all AMC huts are). The croo is usually very helpful and friendly. Getting there is a chore, but worth it. Throw down your pack and run up Madison after. Star lake is close as well. This is a favorite return for our annual hut trips.

Of the AMC huts where I've stayed this is my favorite. It's my favorite mainly because the location right between Mounts Adams and Madison. The crews in the AMC huts are amazing no matter where you stay. The Madison hut has nightlights at each bunk which is different than most of the others. If you've never stayed in an AMC huts in the White Mountains I suggest you do! Make reservations well in advance! The food is what you'd expect from a hut that has to be supplied by college aged kids who strap in on their back and carry it up the mountain. It's not gourmet but man does it taste good after a long day of hiking. Hopefully you don't have a snorer in your room but you might want to bring headphones just in case.

Great stay in paradise. 1 comment tho. We checked in and the woman who was at the front desk said she wasn’t usually manning the desk. She continued to explain that she was the head cook while with both arms overhead she scratched her hairy armpits.. no judgement here but she was the head cook! Kinda comical actually

I was recalling my stay in this hut to my wife the other day and thought I'd leave a review here as well. Back in 1996 I hiked the presidents with my godfather, who passed away a couple years ago. This hut was our first night and was an experience that I've never forgotten and think about frequently. We had previously hiked a section of the John Muir Trail, and I was accustomed to the switchbacks typical of trails in the west, on the AMT they usually cut knee high steps and its that for miles and miles. We hiked something like 7 to 9 miles of steps that day and, though I was young, it was brutal and I felt like quitting every step of the way. The hut was a welcome relief and was more or less like a youth hostel in the mountains. In the morning one of the staff walked the halls playing softly on his guitar to wake people up for breakfast. I don't think I've ever had a better wake up than that. Ever. All other mornings have paled in comparison. All things together it was a perfect experience.

First time hiker. Stayed at the Hut. Accommodations and food were good. It's not the Ritz but nice and relaxing. I'm 55 and worked out for a few weeks. Hiked up the rocky area with 25lb pack along with experienced hiker friends. It was the biggest workout I have ever done. I want to go back! Awesome time to reflect, relax, climb, hike, talk and enjoy the outdoors.

Surprisingly modern and had some food that was reasonably priced. Great place to regroup after a long hike before going back to camp. We did a day trip from the Osgood campsite to Mount Madison, this Hut, and then back to camp.

Beautiful and clean. Lot of people can enter there and everyone is nice. From there you can go hike Mount Madison, come back to the hut and get to the top of the second highest Nort Eastern mountain, Mount Adams which is amazing and offer a great view. Madison hut is between these two mountains and you have to stop by!

Can't say enough about the staff and the service at this amazing AMC Hut. Really a once in a lifetime experience! The staff is A1 and to think that they have to CARRY the food up a 4 mile super steep trail makes it taste that much better!! Madison Spring Hut is the best!!
